After having « taken its time », the Elysée announced on Friday May 20 the ministers who will make up the government of Elisabeth Borne. Here’s what to remember:

Gérald Darmanin, Bruno Le Maire and Eric Dupond-Moretti renewed

Bruno Le Maire was named number 2 in the government of Elisabeth Borne, in which he was reappointed as Minister of Economy and Finance.

Other regal ministers renewed in their functions, Gérald Darmanin was confirmed at the Interior and the Keeper of the Seals Eric Dupond-Moretti will continue to Justice. The former government spokesperson, Gabriel Attal, becomes Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts.

Marc Fesneau, former head of the MoDem in the National Assembly and in charge of relations with Parliament since 2018, has been appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty.

Olivier Véran, former Minister of Health, in charge of relations with Parliament

To the former Minister of Health Olivier Véran returns the portfolio of Relations with Parliament and Democratic Life, as Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister. He gives up his post to Brigitte Bourguignon, a former socialist who joined En Marche in 2017, until now the Minister Delegate for Autonomy.

Historian Pap Ndiaye at National Education

This is the surprise of the nominations of the day. Historian Pap Ndiaye has been appointed Minister of National Education and Youth, replacing Jean-Michel Blanquer who remained at the head of the rue de Grenelle for five years.

This 55-year-old French academic, specialist in the social history of the United States and minorities was until now at the head of the French National Museum of the History of Immigration. The school is one of the three major projects of Emmanuel Macron’s new five-year term – who marched with a swarm of children on the evening of his re-election. The academic Sylvie Retailleau has meanwhile been appointed Minister of Higher Education and Research.

Amélie Oudéa-Castera, Stanislas Guerini and Yaël Braun-Pivet join the government

Former tennis hopeful and enarque Amélie Oudéa-Castera was appointed Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games on Friday, LREM number one Stanislas Guerini Minister of Transformation and the Public Service and MP Yaël Braun-Pivet overseas minister

Alongside the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, the Mayor of Angers Christophe Béchu is in charge of Local Authorities.

The deputy of Guadeloupe Justine Benin is appointed Secretary of State for the Sea and the magistrate Charlotte Caubel Secretary of State for Children.

MEP Chrysoula Zacharopoulou becomes Secretary of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships.

With the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Franck Riester remains in charge of Foreign Trade and Attractiveness and Clément Beaune of Europe.

Amélie de Montchalin and Agnès Pannier-Runacher in charge of Ecological and Energy Transition

Amélie de Montchalin and Agnès Pannier-Runacher were appointed Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion and Minister for Energy Transition on Friday, respectively, two priority projects for the new Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.

They were respectively Minister of Transformation and the Civil Service and Minister of Industry in the outgoing government of Jean Castex.

At 43, the former socialist has among his missions the ambitious goal of « full employment » in 2027 set by Emmanuel Macron for his second five-year term.

The former boss of LR deputies Damien Abad has been appointed Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and People with Disabilities. This appointment confirms the speculation that had been running for several days concerning a rapprochement of the deputy of the presidential majority.
