Natacha de Crombrugghe, 28, has been missing since January 24, 2022 while on a trek in Peru. The investigation stalled, her parents, Sabine and Eric, went once again to Peru to try to find their daughter. In a press release shared this Sunday evening, they return to the evolution of research in recent months.
« As soon as her disappearance was announced on February 3, many volunteer guides went there to look for Natacha in the Canyon. They were joined by teams of police and high mountain rescuers (…) In all, more than 70 people excavated more than 495 km. But, they do not know the Canyon and did not cooperate with the volunteers who know the area. After a month, they left empty-handed. In March, the season of rains and an earthquake making access to the Canyon difficult, the search was abandoned »they began.
Sabine and Eric went to Peru for the first time on February 6 to coordinate the research as well as possible. Very quickly the criminal investigation is dismissed since no clue and no trace of blood was found after the search of the hotel. The Belgians are responsible for investigating Natacha’s mobile phone and PC, but it is impossible to geolocate her or obtain any information. Finally, convinced that the immense mobilization on the spot will be fruitful, Natacha’s parents choose to return to Belgium a few weeks later.
« Mid-March, the Peruvian police inform us that a new witness would have crossed Natacha in the canyon and would have heard an earthquake and a landslide just after. We ask them to verify the veracity of this testimony and to surrender on the spot to find out if our daughter is buried under the earth and the stones. We live in anguish. But, we remain without news and have to wait for the meeting with the Prosecutor and the people in charge of the file in Belgium to resume the plane for Lima on April 4, determined to do everything to find our daughter“, continues the press release.

They then decide to carry out their own investigation in parallel. « We are going to Cabanconde to be close to our daughter and to investigate ourselves with the population (…) Everything is known in a small village but no one dares to speak. Why? » Sabine and Eric have also offered a $15,000 reward for anyone who can help with the investigation.
« Desperate, we returned to Arequipa (…) We accompanied the two Divincri police officers who were to continue the investigation in Cabanconde. But, two days later, they returned to Arequipa, the drone promised to search the inaccessible areas n he still hasn’t arrived, all our requests for inquiries, repeated many times, have still not been carried out.The police are waiting for the corn harvest, the receding of the river and Natacha’s body to continue the judicial inquiry. However, everyone, including the police, thinks that something happened at the hotel or in Cabanconde. Today, Eric and Sabine are exhausted. They reveal that the only information that reaches them is that of mediums and other clairvoyants who very often see their daughter dead or alive, but each time in different places. Currently, only a voluntary guide continues the research. From then on, Natacha’s parents launched a new appeal. « Today, we are exhausted, both morally and physically. We are still at the starting point and we are going around in circles. We expect the authorities to seriously resume the investigation and answer all our questions.
